Two Commandments ?

Food For Thought, I MEAN ACTION !!

For those who say there are only two commandments we have to keep post-death/resurrection. See how Yeshua throws us a curveball.

10 commandments as seen in Yeshua’s statement in Matthew 22:36-40

36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”37 Yeshua said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your G_d with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Neither are NEW…. Deut 6:5 and Leviticus 19:18

Commandment number one “Greatest” from Yeshua

37 You shall love the Lord your G_d with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’38 This is the first and great commandment.
Which He gets from Deut 6:5

This refers to commandments 1-4 = 1, all four below are about our love for G_d.

1 *You shall have no other G_d’s before me.

2 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your G_d, am a jealous G_d, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

3 “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your G_d, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

4 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your G_d. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days, the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore, the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Commandment number two “Second” from Yeshua

Matt22:39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
Also, He gets from Leviticus 19:18

This would refer to commandments 5-10 = 2, as all five are about our love for our neighbor.

5 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your G_d is giving you.

6 “You shall not murder (not kill, but murder).

7 “You shall not commit adultery.

8 “You shall not steal.

9 “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

10 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

See how this plays out when He says in verse 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” The two (2) cover the ten (10) and the 10 are within the 2.

Which brings us to Matthew 5:17-19
“Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

The translation of “to fulfill” is lekayem in Hebrew (le-KAI-yem), which means to uphold or establish.

So, the question is what are you practicing and/or teaching?

Yeshua says in John 14:15 “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.”

May the love of Yeshua be within you and you within Him.
